Mason allows users to add a wireless printer to the network so that students may print without using a printer cable. Many printers have wireless functionality and some printers do not even come with a cable anymore! Below are general steps to adding a wireless printer to the network. Please note that not all printers are supported (including printers that create their own, AD-HOC networks).

Connecting a printer:
1. First, you will need to identify the MAC address (also known as physical address) of the printer. This is often in the Network Settings of the printer, and it may be placed in an advanced section of the network settings. Some printers allow you to print a page containing networking information, it should be listed there as well.
2. Once you have the MAC address, go to mydevices.gmu.edu and log in. It will then ask you to register the MAC address on the network.
3. Connect to the Mason SSID on your printer using the network settings. At this point, your printer should be connected to the network and you will need to add it to your computer.

Adding a printer to your computer:
Windows
1. Open the start and search for "Devices and Printers."
2. Select "Add a Printer."
3. Select "The printer I want wasn't listed."
4. Select "Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname."
5. On the printer, under network settings it should give you a hostname. In the hostname or IP address box enter your_hostname.byod.gmu.edu. Port name can be left blank and your computer should detect the device driver. If prompted, you do not want to share the device on the network. In some cases, you may have to select the printer driver using your printer model.
**If you are unable to find the hostname, or if you are unable to print using the hostname you can also add it by IP address (10.159.x.x). The printer should list this. Enter the IP address in the address box instead of your_hostname.byod.gmu.edu. Please note, on occasion an IP address may change. If this is the case, you may have to update the IP address in your settings on the computer.

OS X
1. Open System Preferences.
2. Select Printers & Scanners.
3. Press the plus button.
4. Select IP.
5. On the printer, under network settings it should give you a hostname. In the address box enter your_hostname.byod.gmu.edu
6. Protocol should be left as LPD and queue should be left blank.
7. At this point your computer should query the printer and find the right driver to use. You may have to install the driver software or select it yourself.
8. Press add and try printing a test page.
